Forgot the Ways of God

(Written November 2020 – based on Zephaniah 3:14-20)

When Jerusalem forgot the ways of God
she was broken, in conflict and highly vulnerable;
the city, all her people, had let God down –
not one went willingly against the trend.

She was broken, in conflict and highly vulnerable –
now her enemies were closing in;
not one went willingly against the trend –
afraid, she draws back to God at last resort.

Now her enemies were closing in –
expecting God judging, she finds God forgiving;
afraid, she draws back to God at last resort –
God’s safety, peace and confidence so very unexpected.

Expecting God judging, she finds God forgiving –
The city, all her people, had let God down;
God’s safety, peace and confidence so very unexpected,
when Jerusalem forgot the ways of God.
