This writing invites us into a journey in Holy week following a journey through the Narrative in Luke’s Gospel. It was written on 10 April 2025.
It is time.
Time to be amongst the crowds as Jesus rides into Jerusalem,
and to join in, praising and singing and shouting:
‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest”1
It is time to journey through Palm Sunday with Jesus.
It is time.
Time to witness as Jesus clears the temple,
and to feel as he clears our hearts and minds
of all the things which prevent us from serving –
in our hearts, in our minds, and in our prayers.
It is time to journey through Monday with Jesus.
It is time.
Time to learn as Jesus is questioned by the authorities,
on his authority, on taxes, on marriage at the resurrection –
perhaps we’re among those who want to trip Jesus up!
But we listen and learn and respond with ‘Well said teacher’2
It is time to journey through Tuesday with Jesus.
It is time.
Time to lament at the destruction of the temple and Jerusalem,
as still, we suffer from the effects of Earths damage,
as still, we choose to fight and be in conflict with friend and neighbour.
But invited to trust God’s word, we’re given much needed wisdom.
Its time to journey through Wednesday with Jesus.
It is time.
Time to celebrate the Passover – Jesus’ Passover meal with a difference.
Do we eat His bread, and drink from the cup – only to then betray or deny him?
And as we see him, taken from the Garden to face trial and death,
It’s time – to take up our own crosses, and to follow him.
It’s time to journey through Maundy Thursday with Jesus.
It is Time.
Time to follow Jesus to Golgotha, with his two criminal companions.
To watch the grim scene, as Jesus commits his spirit to God,
But as we watch, and like the Centurion, may we be transformed.
as we realise, anew, ‘surely this was a righteous man’3, our Messiah!
It is time to journey to the Cross with Jesus this Good Friday.
It is time.
It is time to sit and observe our Sabbath Rest after a tough week.
A chance to reflect and digest as we wait.
The Gospel, the world falls silent –
and we ponder all we’ve experienced
It is time to rest with Jesus in the tomb.
It will soon be time,
when Easter comes –
to celebrate the discovery,
the joy and hope,
for Christ will rise again in us!
But for now,
It is time to journey through Holy Week.
