A reflection for Palm Sunday. It is written as by someone who has joined in with the crowd that day.
Written 23 March 2024.
Suggested scripture: Mark 11:7-11
Considering the atmosphere that day –
it must have been so energising,
hearing the crowd’s cry ‘Hosanna!’
as Jesus came near en route to Jerusalem,
here, and now!
And as we recall our own experiences of crowds –
excited crowds, with a wonderful buzz
spreading from person to person,
engulfing all who choose, or happen, to come near,
here, and now!
It encourages us to draw near –
whether willingly, excitedly,
whether with curiosity and questions,
whether we’ve simply been swept along by the crowd.
The energy is infectious,
here, and now!
It encourages us to join in the cry of ‘Hosanna!’
to pass on that energy to the next person,
that invitation to come and join the crowd,
so that the praise to Christ our King
can be shouted and sang
reaching right through our community,
here, and now!
