Week three of the Creationtide theme of Justice and Peace flowing through God’s Loving Presence in the World – combining the international theme with the wish to celebrate the beauty of the earth – the positive alongside the hardship and emergency of climate change.
This week’s sub theme is Wildlife – God’s Living Creatures.
It’s a joyful noise that God’s wildlife can sing –
the birdsong loud and clear in joyful noise
announcing the renewed start each day for all.
They’re joining with all creatures great and small,
coming together to form harmonies of creation.
I can hear them, but unless I’m still and quiet,
they remain, hidden from my sight –
the creatures of the morn teaching me to listen.
Into the noon, there’s so much activity –
some creatures playful scampering in the trees,
all the while, continuing their hunt for food.
Others watchful, raising young ones,
ensuring safety from dangers near and far.
But if I keep rushing, if I’m not still and quiet,
all must stop, ‘til me, the danger, has passed –
the creatures of the noon teaching me to pause.
As night falls, daytime’s creatures settle –
all is quiet, peaceful, giving much needed rest.
Still there’s life moving all around –
preferring the quietness over noise,
solitude over company and darkness over light.
But unless I too step away and take my sleep,
I bring imprisonment to those who need their space –
the creatures of the night teaching me retreat.
